A Study In Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I adore Sherlock Holmes stories, and as such, I am leery about reading stories that stray too far from the original. Some have been splendid, such as the Mary Russell series by Laurie King, while I felt other authors took a bit too much poetic license. This is not one of those! Sherry Thomas has created convincing female versions of Holmes and Watson and presented us with other familiar characters within the context of the original tales. What I especially enjoyed is that the characters find that they are having to work within the societal confines of the times, and they do so in a clever and plausible manner. I thoroughly enjoyed this first book of the series, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest!
